in 1881, Hythe Pier stretches 700 yards to the deep water channel
of Southampton Waters. A small Railway originally built in the
first world war runs along the pier and connects with the arrival
and departure of the Hythe Ferry to Southampton Town Quay.
A free shuttle bus service runs every 15 mins (every day and all year) between
the Town Quay and Southampton Central railway station (via West Quay shopping
centre). The entire journey takes 10 minutes.
