Hatchet Pond map
Hatchet Pond was created in the 18th century to provide power for an iron mill; it is the largest body of water in the New Forest. The pond is set within open heathland and a perfect place for a picnic. Toilets are situated in the car park.
Hatchet Pond has two other small ponds on the western end. This one, the larger of the two doesn't have many fish, but ones in there are supposed to be quite big. The fish in the pond are; Roach, Bream, Tench and Carp. To fish here you’ll need a Forestry Commission fishing permit and a Environment Agency rod license. The fishing season runs from June to March.
